Day 2 – The Imaginary Italian Film Festival – Luce Dei Miei Occhi at the Adriano

Piazza Cavour

Welcome To Day 2 of the Imaginary Italian Film Festival!
So, you’ve been touring the Vatican museum all day – you stood in that long line and then looked at a bunch of chalices; right? Why don’t you meet us at 7:00 for a glass of Prosecco? If you are at the Vatican go east on via Crescenzio until you get to the beautiful piazza with all the palm trees and the monument of Camillo Benso, Count Cavour. It’s named for him, Piazza Cavour. There you’ll find the Palace of Justice, the Valdese Church, and my favorite movie theater in Rome, the Adriano Multisala.

You might find the Adriano a strange choice. It’s big and modern, and there are plenty of little theaters that have a lot more character, but I can’t help it. I love going to the Adriano and I guess it’s because I’m American.I love that I can show up at practically any time of the day or night and there’s going to be something playing that I can see in one of the many theaters. I love the smell of burnt popcorn and that I can get my diet coke with ice. I love the bored teenager who takes my ticket and doesn’t really care where I sit. I’ll take you to one with more character tomorrow, but today we’re going to the Adriano. And today we’re seeing Luce Dei Miei Occhi with my favorite, Luigi Lo Cascio. Click here to get it all queued up for the instant viewing.

Luigi with Sandra Ceccarelli in Luce Dei Miei Occhi

I’ve already written about Luce Dei Miei Occhi – HERE – you can read that before the movie starts. It’s a love story – sort of – and it won a lot of awards. It’s pretty good, and you’ll like it even better with the diet coke with ice and the burnt popcorn.

Simposio di Costantini

After the movie, let’s go down the street and have dinner at a great wine bar, Simposio di Costantini. The food is fabulous and it’s wine cellar is one of the best in Rome. Take a look – there’s a great wine shop next door. As they say, you’ll come for the wine and stay for the food – they have over 80 kinds of cheeses! It’s kind of fancy-schmancy and not cheap so, what the hell, I’ll pay. I’m very generous when it comes to paying for imaginary dinners.

Tomorrow – we’ll look for “La Dolce Vita” on Via Veneto and see a movie in the area that the Fellini’s film was made. Buona notte!
