I‘ve been trying to figure out why Netflix is so tedious to navigate – am I the only one? I find it very hard to browse for specific genres or even just organzize all the recent releases. It seems like they (intentionally?) send you on wild goose chases.
Trying to find the more modern Italian movies with subtitles available to us in the US is maddening. A search for “Italian movies” gives me 515 pages of unfiltered mess, with Hollywod films that were made in Italy (like Under the Tuscan Sun), ones that merely have the word Italy or Italian in them (like The Italian Job), or actual Italian movies in no apparent order, anything from Fellini to Benigni
If I do “browse” then “genres” then “foreign”, “region” and finally “Italy” I find 5 pages of Italian movies, mixed up and not organized alphabetically or chronologically. And I swear they aren’t even all there. I get emails every day asking me where to find the newer movies coming out of Italy and yoo hoo! I’ve got them! To date I have reviewed and listed 26 Italian movies, made relatively recently, with subtitles, available to rent. And keep reading this blog – I’ve only just begun. Yet people still say to me, “You can’t find Italian movies with subtitles in America.” Sometimes I feel like I’m talking to myself. Yes you can. There are many good ones.
If you are into the so called “golden age” of Italy – Fellini, De Sica, etc., then I can’t really help you. Or you might like the Italian giallo genre, Dario Argento and that stuff and in that case, problem solved, go see Nigel at Italian Film Review.
Do I have to do everything around here?
There are so many good Italian movies that are not available here in the US, but there are plenty that are. So stop saying that you can’t find them. They’re all over this webite!
You’re welcome.
