I’m Going to Rome, I’m Going to Rome, I’m Going to Rome, I’m Going to Rome!

Marco Bellocchio

Next week I’ll be doing what I look forward to all year long – my annual solo trip to Rome. It’s not that I don’t like trips with my family – I do that too, and in fact, Lauren’s coming over for a few days. But next Thursday I’m saying arrivederci amore to my husband and I’m jumping on a plane. He wouldn’t have any fun anyway because this is my movie trip.
Well, it’s a little more than that. I have tickets to two plays and I’ll get more if I see something good. One, is a stage production of Marco Bellocchio’s 1965 I Pugni in Tasca (Fist in His Pockets). It’s going to be at a theater not very far from my apartment and it stars Ambra Angiolini and Piergiorgio Bellocchio, Marco Bellocchio’s son (we just saw her in Ferzan Ozpetek’s Saturno Contro and him in Buongiorno, Notte).
I just put down my lap top so that I could stand up and jump up and down, saying things like, “Yay and yippee”  – could you tell?

Noi Credevamo

And I’ll probably go to two movies a day if I can. I am PRAYING that Noi Credevamo, the movie about Italy’s unification starring Luigi Lo Cascio ( La Bestia Nel Cuore ) and Toni Servillo (Il Divo, Gomorrah) is still around somewhere. I see that it’s at a few theaters this week, so maybe I’ll get lucky, and I’d just be overwhelmed with joy if I could seeLa Banda Dei Babbi Natale with Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo.

Everyone on Twitter keeps telling me that Checco Zalone’s Che Bella Giornata (What a Beautiful Day) is really good, so I’ll be looking for that.

Checco Zalone

Beginning the end of next week I’ll be posting from Rome about movies that are in the theaters in Rome right now – I’ll probably be bragging about all the good food and wine I’m having too. Sorry in advance.

And another thing – if you are a famous Italian actor, actress, or director you may want to lay low for a few weeks because I will absolutely be stalking you who live in Rome. Unless you’d like to meet me – and that would be so great.

If you live in Italy and would like to tell me about what I should be seeing (or avoiding), please contact me! (Hai un consiglio per me dei film? Dimmelo!)

Luigi

And Luigi Lo Cascio – if you see a crazy American blond lady running toward you – don’t panic. It’s just me, and I’d looooooove to meet you.
