At the risk of losing all possible credibility with advice about movies I’m just going to say it: I didn’t hate The Tourist.

Oh, it’s stupid, no doubt about that. But the worst movie of 2010? Hardly!

When in Rome? Now that was insufferable. Miley Sirus in The Last Song ? Sex and the City 2 ? These are movies worth hating. The Tourist was not great but I had fun watching it.

It kept me guessing. It has layers upon layers of bad guys and keeping track of which are causing the most trouble is kind of fun. And it’s got Johnny Depp. In Venice. Johnny Depp in Venice. Beautiful + Beautiful = Super Beautiful. And it has a couple of other beautiful Italian actors in it, like Alessio Boni (La Meglio Gioventù) and Raoul Bova ( Under the Tuscan Sun). It has an old Hollywood feel that I enjoyed.

Angelina Jolie tries very hard to ruin it. I know that the party line is that she is sexy and gorgeous but I think she looks like a Bratz Doll’s mom and her acting is stiff and at times just plane goofy.

I’ve seen plenty of movies that were so bad that I wanted my money and/or my two hours back but this wasn’t one of them. I’m not saying that people should rent it – I’m just saying that you won’t want to poke your eyes out and jump off a cliff if you do see it.
