I’ve got David di Donatello Awards Fever (part 2)

Here’s the continuation of the list I’m making of potential David di Donatello award winners. I want to make sure that I’ve seen as many as I can before the actual nominations come out next month.

Immaturi

IMMATURI – I saw this one in Italy and I can not imagine that it is award – worthy, but it did get good reviews in Italy so I guess anything’s possible. It’s fun, has some good acting, and was not a complete waste of time, but it was not extraordinary in any way. It’s the (completely implausible) story of a group of friends who find out that through some kind of clerical error they did not actually graduate from high school and so they must take their exams again. Raoul Bova’s in it – that’s something. I reviewed it HERE.

(It’s not available on DVD yet.)

Into Paradiso

INTO PARADISO – I absolutely loved this movie and I reviewed it HERE. It’s the story of a scientist that loses his job and goes to a local sleazy politician for help in trying to get it back. In return for his help he agrees to run a little errand…

(It’s not yet available on DVD)

L’estate di Martino

L’ESTATE DI MARTINO – I’d never heard of this one but the reviews were so good that I think I have to put it on the list. It’s the story of the friendship formed between a boy and an American NATO soldier (played by Treat Williams) in 1980s Italy.

(It’s not yet available on DVD.)

La Banda Dei Babbi Natale

LA BANDA DEI BABBI NATALE – I really don’t know enough about the awards to know if this will be seriously considered – but I loved it. Seeing La Banda Dei Babbi Natale at a movie theater in Rome was  super fun for me. In it Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo get mistaken for a crime gang with Santa Claus disguises. I reviewed it HERE.

(It’s not yet available on DVD)

La Bellezza Del Somaro

LA BELLEZZA DEL SOMARO – If this one wins anything I will have to admit that I know NOTHING about what Italians like in movies. I hated it, and that’s a shame because it was written by, directed by, and starred one of my absolute favorites Sergio Castellito. La Bellezza del Somaro was one of my least favorites of all time. It’s the story of a teenage girl who starts dating a 60 year old to freak out her parents. I reviewed it HERE.

(It’s not yet available on DVD)

Tomorrow, part 3 – yes, there are more!!! It was a very good year!
