My Daughter is a Genius

my genius daughter, Lauren

My daughter gave me a great new idea and, starting tomorrow, my readers will benefit from it. Now when I review a movie I will also be writing about the city or region in which it was filmed, and/or I’ll be talking more about things in the movie that are particular to Italy.

I might talk about the foods and wines, the history behind something, the customs, the political significance or the travel information – who knows? I guess it will vary with each movie. Maybe one day I’ll write about the movie itself and then for the next few days we’ll look at the other stuff.

Tomorrow I’ll be writing about the 2003 Io Non Ho Paura (I’m not afraid), an excellent movie that actually did pretty well with a US release. It was filmed in Puglia and Basilicata, but we’ll focus on the region of Basilicata. I’m excited to start here because having just watched and written about the movie Basilicata Coast to Coast” I realize that I know very little about it. In fact, that was sort of the point of the movie. In an opening song the characters sing about Basilicata not having anything that anyone envies. We’ll see about that!

Basilicata

What kinds of wine do they drink? What kind of vacation would you have there? In general, what’s going on in Basilicata?

I hope it becomes something that everyone enjoys!
