Distributors said, “Noi Non Ci Crediamo” – We Don’t Believe

Noi sognavamo – we dreamed. Noi lottavamo – we struggled. Noi speravamo – we hoped. Noi non ci siamo arresi – we didn’t surrender. Noi credevamo – we believed.

Doesn’t this look like the kind of movie that would do well in America? At the risk of overgeneralizing in a really sexist way, it’s got the whole period piece/ Masterpiece Theater thing going on that women drag men to theaters to see and the war and history stuff that men love.

In yesterday’s post Valentina commented that “Noi credevamo didn’t have a large distribution in Italian theatres, just 30 copies during the first week (it come out last november) – consider that a big italian comedy usually has about 800 copies. Producers and distributors didn’t really believe in this movie.”
