Check Out Torino

“La Doppia Ora (The Double Hour) was filmed in Torino and Torino is a great city for movie lovers. There you can visit the National Cinema Museum that is housed in the Mole Antonelliana, until recently the highest masonry structure in Europe. Designed originally as a synagogue. you can take an elevator ride (a scary one) to the top of the dome (all glass so you don’t miss a minute of the ride – I chickened out.).

Inside there’s five floors of movie memorabilia, continuously playing movies you can view from big comfy lounge chairs with sound built into the headrests. There’s a restaurant, coffee bar, and just lots to do. My only complaint – too many Holllywood movies and not enough Italian ones. It’s interactive and fun, though, and a good reason to visit the city.

The museum’s collection is among the most complete in the world including 7,000 film titles in the cinema library; 9,000 objects, paintings and old prints; 140,000 photographic documents; 150,000 posters; and more than 200 magic lanterns along with a collection of 4,500 slides. The museum is completed by its library with 20,000 volumes and 3,000 periodical titles, an audio library and print archives of great historical value.
