As I look at the nominees for The David di Donatello Awards I remember why I never do this with the Oscars. I have no intuition. No sixth sense. No common sense. No inner voice telling me the answers.
Maybe I’m trying to think like an Italian – and maybe I should just pick who I like. In my opinion, both Luigi Lo Cascio (for Noi Credevamo) and Toni Servillo (Una Vita Tranquilla) should have been nominated.
For best actor, the nominees are:
Vinicio MARCHIONI – “20 Sigarette”
Kim Rossi Stuart – “Vallanzasca gli angeli del male”
Antonio ALBANESE – “Qualunquemente“
Should win: Toni Servillo should win for “Una Vita Tranquilla“, but my next choice is Elio Germano (“La nostra vita”) for his gut wrenching performance and realistic portrayal of a man who loses his wife and has to figure out a way to raise his family without her. The funeral scene is one of the best of the year.
Will Win: I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Antonio Albanese will win. It seems that his “Cetto La Qualunque” has made quite a stir.
