Grazie tante to Debra for pointing out that Saturn in Opposition, Saturno Contro, is playing next week on the Sundance Channel. From director Ferzan Ozpetek and with an all-star cast (Margherita Buy, Stefano Accorsi, Pierfrancesco Favino,Filippo Timi ) it’s the story of a group of friends, gay and straight, with various problems and challenges who have to come together united in a crisis.
I have to be honest – it wasn’t my favorite – but it’s an Italian movie on TV! And here’s why you should watch it: Ozpetek is one of Italy’s best directors. He’s gay, and he makes wonderful movies about homosexuals. He has said that he doesn’t like a movie that is too focused on the homosexuality, and I think Ozpetek is guilty of that himself at times, but his films are still worth watching.
Saturn in Opposition was nominated for and won lots of awards and though I thought it was a little weak – what do I know?
Read what I wrote about it HERE and look at the Sundance schedule HERE.
And once again, thanks Debra!
