Checco Zalone Ready for a New Film

Checco Zalone

Checco Zalone is someone that America should take note of – he’s a comic who made a movie, “Che Bella Giornata” (What a Beautiful Day ) that became Italy’s most successful film, out-earning “La Vita è Bella”. I found and translated this article on Yahoo Cinema Italia, and again, hope I’ve done it justice. Count me in with those who can’t get enough Checco – I can’t wait for his next movie!

He’d announced his intentions to take a little break but – as it seems – a few months of vacation are enough for Checco Zalone to regain energy and strength.

The director Gennaro Nunziante with which the comic has worked in “Che Bella Giornata” and “Cado dalle Nubi” has announced a new project in the works that will involve the comic/actor and will probably be ready in 2012. It will also star Maria de Filippi, an Italian television star.

Maria de Filippi

Nunziante hasn’t provided many details on the new movie, but says that the main topic will be the world of work: “We’ll tell it our way”, added the director. “Work is the thing that we have that is the most affected by the barbarism of capitalism. With social butchery and with the excuse of economic crisis it has destroyed an unestimitable wealth of human worth. I like telling about the simple things and what I know well, about people with humanity and patience, even if they don’t have the tendency for it.”

It’s a theme that’s close to the director’s heart because of personal experience and it’s involved his family to the point that Nunziante calls “the uncertainly of the future” the major problem of Italian families today. “The kind that causes depression and sometimes violence. It’s a dynamic that I know well having had an unemployed father with a wife and five children at home.”

So as Zalone prepares for the film will he succeed – with his usual irony – to deal with delicate subjects and at the same time entertain the public? (Grazia Cicciotti)
