Monica Bellucci at the Taormina Film Festival

I guess Monica Bellucci’s appearance in the embarrassing “Manuale d’amore 3” with Robert DeNiro didn’t damage her star power – she was given a top prize at Italy’s 56th annual Taormina Film Festival this past weekend. Italy’s principal summer film event, it takes place in the stunning backdrop of the Teatro Antico of Taormina, one of Sicily’s most important and well-preserved monuments.  Bellucci was given the Taormina Art Award, the festival’s top honor for achievement in the cinema industry, at a special ceremony on Saturday, June 11.

The Taormina Arte Awards are passed out every year to directors, actors and actresses who “have made vital contributions to international cinema.” Past award winners have been  Robert De Niro, Catherina Deneuve and Jessica Lange.

The 46-year-old actress, who is still undeniably beautiful but who some are calling “the botox queen”, spent Saturday night  attending the “Kung Fu Panda 2” premiere and opening ceremony of the film festival.
