Raoul Bova is an Italian actor that America has taken to (no mystery here – he’s beautiful). He played Conte Filippo Gaggia in “The Tourist” and more than one woman I know lived vicariously through Diane Lane’s character in “Under The Tuscan Sun, when he played her hot boyfriend, Marcello . In Italy, though, Bova has felt underappreciated, and once said, ““Hollywood is the center of the cinema and you can find a lot of ways to improve yourself as an actor. I mean, action movies, romantic movies, a comedy and sometimes in Italy… I’m not saying I’m a good-looking guy, but sometimes the good-looking guys don’t have a very easy life in Italy because they don’t write a lot of roles for the good-looking guys.”
You don’t know if you’re handsome? Seriously?
He found a good one last year – Nessuno Mi Può Giudicare, (No one can judge me), a movie that has already been winning awards; Paola Cortellesi won best actress in the David di Donatello Awards for the movie and the the association of Italian film critics has just voted it the “Nastro D’Argento” (Silver Ribbon) for best comedy. Apparently it was a bit of a surprise, having beaten the blockbusters, “Che Bella Giornata” and “Basilicata Coast to Coast“. The rest of the awards will be given next Saturday the 25th of June at Teatro Antico in Taormina.
Nessuno Mi Può Giudicare is the story of a 35-year-old spoiled housewife and mother whose husband suddenly dies and leaves her with a mountain of debt – solution: become a high-price call girl.
Can we PLEASE have this one in American theaters? It’s got Roaul Bova!
