I was in Switzerland for a few days and boy-oh-boy is Luzern beautiful, but I arrived yesterday in Verona and the first thing I did? Check the paper for movies, of course. I should not have been surprised to see so many theaters chiuso, closed, for either the whole summer or just for August. If I had wanted to go to the movies last night these would have been my choices: Kung Fu Panda 2, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Bridesmaids, or Horrible Bosses. (I guess Harry Potter Mania has left Italy).
Everybody has always told me that nothing gets done in Italy in August. I have an Italian friend who works in a law office and I once asked her what happens if you want to sue someone and she said that in August you just can’t.
Let’s hope everyone returns from the sea or from the mountains and opens up the theaters for me September 1 in Rome because I’m not really interested in watching Mr. Popper’s Penguins dubbed into Italian.
