Thanks to @Superboh (Italy’s #1 Paparazza* opines on travel, food, culture, politics and gossip), a worthwhile Twitter follow, by the way, who also has a great website: superboh.com, I found out about a film festival in NYC that I will unfortunately miss, but sounds great. The festival promises “feature films with directors, actors, and actresses in person.” Damn! I can’t believe I won’t be there!
Starting today at the Courthouse Theater ( 32 2nd Ave.) New Yorkers or visitors to the city will have the chance to see Our Life, La Nostra Vita, by Daniele Luchetti and starring the outstanding young Isabella Ragonese at 7:30 and at 9:30.
Saturday they are showing Il gioiellino, The Jewel, with one of my absolute favorites, Toni Servillo. I haven’t had a chance to see this yet – it just came out on DVD and mine hasn’t arrived from Italy yet. A story based on the real life Parmalat scandal in Italy, it’s getting great reviews.
And Sunday, Il Padre e Lo Straniero, a pretty interesting story of a friendship between 2 fathers with very different backgrounds from Ricky Tognazzi.

Nice New Italian Cinema Events is a non-profit cultural association founded in 1991 that aims to promote the new Italian cinema abroad through cultural exchanges and festivals. Its founders and members have been working for more than a decade in the organization of such international film festivals. For each Festival the selection committee chooses seven feature films among the best made by up-and-coming film directors throughout the year. Nice USA, the most established one, shows a selection of seven shorts made recently. The films presented in the Nice USA Festival are eligible to receive the “Premio Città di Firenze” (City of Florence Award) which is decided by the American audience by voting cards handed out before each screening. The prestige of the Festival has increased with the passing of years thanks also to the relations established with the most important producers and distributors (Miramax, United Artists, Touchstone Pictures, MGM etc.) and the interest they have shown for the event.
