We’ll have to wait until 2013 for the chance of an Oscar since Paolo Sorrentino’s This Must Be The Place won’t be released in American theaters until March 2012 – will everyone have forgotten about it by Academy Award time in 2013? Though it was premiered at Cannes last May and it’s been in Italian theaters since October, we’ve yet to have the chance – more importantly I haven’t had the chance to see it here in the US. The distribution agreement with Weinstein Company was finalized too late to squeeze it in for the big holiday season. Weinstein Company doesn’t care, because they have two other strong Oscar contenders for 2012, The Artist, and My Week With Marilyn.
Also, Weinstein is said to have been fiddling with This Must Be The Place, cutting 5 to 6 minutes and making other changes and this could explain the pushed back release date. Hope they don’t fiddle too much…
