Italian women just kill me.
How is it that, at the gym, they can dress like models doing photo shoots for sportswear, with makeup and jewelry, barely breaking a sweat while they do things that look like yoga for senior citizens , and yet stay so beautil and young looking? When I’m at the gym in Italy I am usually the only one actually exercising because I am unsuccessfully attempting to look like them and yet I still look like me while they look like Sophia Loren– all of them.

Case in point: Stefania Sandrelli, the star of Fabio Volo’s new Un Giorno in Più, and more than 120 movies and tv shows – you heard me right – 10 dozen. She’s 65 and still working as much as she ever did, playing Anna Nigiotti in Michelucci in the award-winning, La Prima Cosa Bella (The First Beautiful Thing), Anna in L’ulitmo Bacio (The Last Kiss), and Adriana in Un Giorno Perfetto (A Perfect Day).
She’s an inspiration to old ladies like me everywhere. I don’t have her genes and I’m going to have to stay sweaty in the gym to look even half decent, but she’s proof that 65 can still be sexy.
