We know thirty-three year old Sardinian actress Elisabetta Canalis as George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend, but to Italy, she’s a sort of Christmas princess, appearing in two of the country’s biggest Christmas movies – Cinepanettone, as they call them. Don’t expect to find Babbo Natale – Santa – in Cinepanettone. Cinepanettone relies on silly plots with people on Christmas holiday trips and beautiful girls with big breasts – like Canalis. I’ve just finished watching the more recent, the 2010 A Natale Mi Sposo (I’m getting married at Christmas), in which Canalis played Paloma, a wedding planner, and I’d originally hoped to review it for the holiday season.
But I just can’t. It’s too stupid. In fact I’m begging you not to watch it.
It’s the story of a guy who is trying to marry his daughter off to a rich family and they travel to San Moritz for a “chic” wedding. There’s a silly cook who accidentally makes the cakes laced with marijuana, his assistant who loves to hook up with senior citizens, and a teenager that is in love with the bride… trust me, it’s just awful. The press hated it and I don’t think that it did very well in Italy. Someone as pretty as Elisabetta might save other movies, but not this one. It is unsalvageable.
Elisabetta’s got a website, a very sparsely kept one, but there are some nice screen savers of her in bathing suits that you can download. In the “about me” section she says that her next goal is to become a movie star – we’ll see about that. My advice: lay off the cinepanettone, Elisabetta.
