It will be available February 8 and you can pre-order it from ibs.it – Emanuele Crialese’s Terraferma, winner of the special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and this year’s submission from Italy to the Oscars.
It’s the poignant story of the flood of illegal immigrants into the tiny Italian island of Lampadusa, and with powerful performances by Donatella Finocchiaro, Filippo Pucillo, and Mimmo Cuticchio this one’s a winner whether the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thinks so or not.
When they talk about the short list, Terraferma is not on it, but with first tier directors like Marco Bellocchio and Luca Guadagnino on the committee to decide which film to send for consideration, I knew that they wouldn’t make a mistake like last year’s (La Prima Cosa Bella).
If you have a zone free or European DVD player – don’t miss it. It has English subtitles if you need them.
