About the MYmovies.it Live Movie Watching Experience

Yesterday I urged everybody to join me over at MYmovies.it for the preview of  Sulla Strada di Casa, a movie that opens in Italian theaters today.

Sorry about that.

This is the second Live experience I participated in, the first a (supposed to be) interview with Isabella Ragonese and Fabio Volo, though Isabella never showed up. I was pretty excited; Sulla Strada di Casa stars one of my favorites, Donatella Finocchiaro. To participate in the Live experience, you have to get a virtual seat (limited to 500) for a virtual theater. It’s free, but I paid a small fee to be able to watch the movie beyond the showtime (that’s another story – it took a half hour and conversations with mymovies.it because the transaction would not go through).

At first I thought it was my computer’s slow connection speed that was making the movie unwatchable, but then I noticed what the other spectators were saying. While watching, you are able to “talk” to everyone and comment about what is happening in the story, but for this show, the comments were complaints about the movie watching experience. Though the website’s moderator insisted that everything was OK, the spectators reported something different.

While the others complained about the frozen frames and the constant interruptions to buffer and then one by one announced they were giving up, I  tried to stick with it, but with my quite imperfect Italian the gaps in the action made it pretty hard to follow the story. I think the movie looks good, but I’ll wait for the DVD to watch it again.

Apart from my LIVE experience, MYmovies.it is a fantastic website, a wealth of information,  and practically my Italian movie Bible.
