Viceroys

Cristiana Capotondi and Alessandro Preziosi

Here’s another one I haven’t seen and haven’t even heard of; director Roberto Faenza’s Viceroys – I vicerè – is now showing with Time Warner’s On Demand.

From Time Warner’s website: Based on a scandalous 19th century novel, this epic tale reveals the sordid exploits surrounding an aristocratic Sicilian family, exposing their corruption while chronicling the turbulent unification of Italy.

Starring Alessandro Preziosi, Lando Buzzanca and Cristiana Capotondi, this one was nominated for and won a bunch of David di Donatello, Italian Golden Globe, and Nastro d’argento awards, so I guess I’m embarrassed to have missed it, but I still wish I understood distribution a little better. I mean, why this one and not the 100 others that I’ve loved and I’m hoping for US release?

I’m waiting patiently for another from Roberto Faenza – his English language film that was shot last year in NYC, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You, will open February 24 in Italian movie theaters and on March 8 in the US at the Miami International Film Festival.
