I just this very morning signed up for Movr, a social film network for movie lovers. I can’t really recommend it with any authority yet, but it looks interesting. For people who want another way to find Italian movies to rent in the US, my gallery will be a good source. Give me a few days, creating my lists is taking awhile and there seems to be a few bugs in the site (it’s really only working for me on Firefox).
There are also quite a few Italian films that you can download through the site – for example, Bread and Tulips for $2.99 and Come Undone for $3.99.
If you’re there, look for me – I have no friends yet. I’m I_Love_Italian_Movies.
Here’s their description from the website: http://www.movr.com/home#Getting-Started
Movr is a new social film network connecting the people who love and make movies.
Movie buffs can build their own film galleries, fill it with the movies they love, and use it to explore a world of film with other passionate film lovers around the world.
Filmmakers can submit a movie profile for each of their films to the Movr catalogue, showcase them in their gallery, and share them with people they know on Movr and Facebook.
The Movr Team works together with our growing community of movie buffs and filmmakers to create the best possible movie connection service online.
Our aim is to provide movie buffs with the largest active catalogue of professional film, unbiased by country, style or vested interests. This includes blockbusters, indies, international films, art films and student films, from feature-length movies to documentaries and shorts. Movr members can then select from a convenient list of online places to buy their favorite movies.
In time, we will provide filmmakers with the tools to tap directly into our expanding Movr community to build a dedicated audience-base around their work.
Movr is currently in Phase 1.0 Beta, the first of many exciting phases we will unfold over the very near future. And we look forward to your feedback and support discussions on the development of the Movr website.
How did we get here?
The Movr team is a group of dedicated film buffs with film production, business and interweb experience frustrated by the lack of ‘legal’ film choice and access online, and with the struggle filmmakers must go through today to find their audience and keep making interesting and enjoyable cinema.
Movr is the result of over 3 years of investigation and development, including visiting 16 countries to meet with local film organisations and filmmakers, to understand where the current global film industry is and the impact of technologies and behavioural shifts effecting the production, distribution, exploration and experience of film.
We are currently in the final stages of releasing an e-Book, titled ‘New Film Culture. Episode 1: Building Film Communities’ , which explores the impact of the social web on film culture and provides insights and tools for filmmakers looking to engage audiences in the digital age.
