Woody Allen’s new movie To Rome With Love opens in that city next Friday and, uh – oh; the Italian critics and journalists have few problems with it.
“Your Italy is superficial, full of escorts, where Italy comes across as nonexistent people”, said on journalist, who suggested Allen must be thinking that all Italians are like Silvio Berlusconi.

And one a little more kind: “To Rome With Love is a declaration of love for Italy, even if it’s an Italy that no longer exists, or maybe never existed except in the dreams of foreigners (ie: Americans).
Woody said “When I come to a place to make a movie, I give you my own impression of it, the things that strike me as dramatic or comic, that would be fun to see,” he said. “I have no great insights at all into Italian politics, Italian culture; I just wanted to make a film set in Rome that would be entertaining to see.”
One thing I’ve always said about Italians; they can take a joke and don’t usually go all boycotty when they’ve been stereotyped.
Let’s just hope it isn’t as embarrassing as Rob Marshall’s Nine, where Fergie danced around foolishly urging everying to “Be Italian” – whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean.
