To Rome With Love Opened Yesterday in Italy

Woody Allen directing Penelope Cruz in To Rome With Love

My favorite movie review website MyMovies.it gave Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love only 2 stars and had some harsh words for it:

“Maybe it’s trying to be a Fellini film, but it’s mostly just a tired film. Maybe he’s trying to recreate Fellini’s The White Sheik but wasn’t able to do it, lacking new ideas and without even trying to flesh out the truth about the old films.”

Did Woody write the movie without trying to understand Rome at all? Does he even care, or is he more interested in his own fictional invention of Italy? Those of you who are in Italy and have the chance to see it would be very welcome to give us your thoughts.
