“After Gomorra I wanted to make a different film, to change gears and I tried to do a comedy”, said director Matteo Garrone of his new film, Reality, shown at a press screening this morning at Cannes. The film is in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and it was met by the press with applause – we’ll have to look for the reviews to see what everyone was thinking. Garrone and the cast will be on the red carpet tonight.
It’s the story of a fish merchant from Napoli who becomes obsessed with a reality show. Luciano (played by Aniello Arena) goes on a screen test for the popular Italian reality show “Big Brother”, and from that moment on his perception of reality is not the same.
