At My Favorite Roman Movie Theater Today: Nine English Language Movies and One French

I TRE MARMITTONI

Good thing I’m not in Rome right now; I would be very unhappy about the movies that are playing. It’s been this way all summer; barely an Italian movie to be found. They’re saving up all the good stuff for Venice, I’m hoping!

Today at my favorite movie theater, The Adriano on Piazza Cavour:

I Tre Marmittoni, or as we know them here, The Three Stooges. “Marmittone”, I had to look that one up and it means “rookie”? (Maybe it’s one of those idiomatic things that I don’t get..)

Il Cammino Per Santiago, or rather, Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen’s The Way. (And by the way, Italians, save your money – it’s one of the most pretentious, pointless movies I have seen in a long time).

The Dittatore, The Dictator from Sacha Baron Cohen.

L’amore Dura Tre Anni, Love Lasts Three Years, from France and dubbed from French; The original title was L’amour Dure Trois Ans.

La Cosa, The Thing from John Carpenter.

Lorax – or as we called it, The Lorax.

In the US it’s just Project X, but in Italy, it’s Project X, Una Festa Che Spacca (A party that rocks – my translation; correct me if I’m mistaken).

Quell’idiota di Nosto Fratello – Our Idiot Brother

Rock of Ages

The Amazing Spiderman, and The Amazing Spiderman 3D
