Somebody help me out here; have I already talked about Come Trovare Nel Modo Giusto L’Uomo Sbagliato (the best way to find the wrong guy)? I watched it tonight and can’t tell if it’s just the most predictable movie I’ve ever seen in my life and it just seems like I’ve seen it, or I’ve actually already seen it and it was just that forgettable.
It’s predictable, and it’s forgettable; I’d better write about it quickly before I forget it again.
Three girls ( Francesca Inaudi, Giorgia Surina, and Giulia Bevilacqua ) deal with man trouble in a kind of Italian “Sex in the City” way. Quirky Penelope goes through men like water, choosing them on the basis of horoscopes, beautiful Alice has (inexplicably) married an unattractive and boring guy that her girlfriends hate, and Sofia would rather be with horses.
Sofia’s sharing an apartment with Alice’s brother Alex, and ooh, la, la, the sexual tension flies with those two. He reads her diary and tells her she’s frigid. She takes his millions of calls from other girls and tells him he’s disgusting. He’s the wrong man (wink, wink), and Bruno, the new man Alex introduces her to is the right one. Right? (Maybe, if it weren’t for that wife and kid of his).
I could have written the script myself after having seen a hundred sitcom episodes that have done a better job of telling this tired story. It’s not available in DVD for US players and it doesn’t come with English subtitles, so I couldn’t really recommend it if I wanted to; luckily I don’t want to. The dialogue is stilted and the acting is embarrassingly unsubtle. It was a struggle not to turn it off mid-way.
Come Trovare Nel Modo Giusto is just another disappointing comedy that did pretty well at the Italian box office and got decent reviews because nobody expects enough from comedies – in Italian or in English.
