Two years after the big box office success of La Nostra Vita and lead actor Elio Germano’s award for best actor at Cannes, director Daniele Luchetti’s begun shooting a so far very hush-hush project called Storia Mitologica Della Mia Famiglia. (My Family’s Mythological Story) Starring Kim Rossi Stuart, Micaela Ramazzotti and Martina Gedek it’s the story of a 10-year-old boy who finds himself in the middle of a family crisis. It’ll be out in 2013 and they are already talking about a possible Cannes premier.
I’m not Micaela’s biggest fan but Kim Rossi Stuart is fantastic and if you follow him you most likely loved him in Vallanzasca: Gli Angeli del Male and Romanzo Criminale. Gedek is a German actress who has won multiple awards including those for the Academy Award winning The Lives of Others and Mostly Martha (Hollywood did a silly remake called No Reservations).
La Nostra Vita is still not available for US DVD players, but you can rent it from Netflix in Canada and you can “Save” it to your queue in America – do it so that they’ll see that there is interest in Italian movies!
As always, you who have European or region free DVD players can, and should, see it now. Remember, a region free DVD player is a small and very worthwhile investment for movie lovers. Mine was $40 and I got it on Amazon.com.
