Dario Argento + Dracula = a super fun 3D horror film that premiered at Cannes and will arrive in Italian theaters next November 22!

The film retells the classic story of the “Undead from Transylvania” and the vampire hunter Van Helsing.

“I want to make one thing clear”, said Argento, “My Dracula has little to do with the vampires stories that are popular today. I tried to invent a vampire that is more classic, not as beautiful, maybe, and less romantic; closer to the Dracula of the book and of classic cinema.”

Here’s how the famous director imagined “the count”.

What’s your favorite way that vampire stories have been told in the movies?

Surely Christopher Lee’s , the star of the Hammer films, but there are others that are great. For example I think that a masterpiece of cinema is the silent film, Nosferatu by Friedrich Murnau. More recently there have been a lot of important works like that of Francis Ford Coppola’s, but....

But?

I don’t like it. I don’t find it particularly successful; I found it too derivative.

In what way will Dracula 3D different from the others?

I decided to make this film after many years because it seemed that there was finally the technology to create the movie that I had in my head. To shoot this film I used a new kind of 3D that is very sophisticated and beautiful. It gives a perfect effect to the audience and it succeeds in involving everyone. As far as I know there are no there are no other Italian films that have been made in this way.

Last question: What’s your favorite character in your Dracula story? 

Absolutely Abraham Van Helsing – I love the chance to have a great actor like Rutger Hauer in the role.
