At the 22nd Courmayeur Noir in Festival, the festival for noir cinema a special mention went to Tulpa by Federico Zampaglione, for its ability to “know how to reclaim the taste and tradition of a golden age,” that of genre cinema in Italy, “all the while adapting its style to today’s audiences.” Tulpa will be distributed in Italy by Iris Film.
Italian rock star turned director Zampaglione’s third film is based on a story by Dardano Sacchetti and is a great example of neo-noir and neo-giallo, the crime and thriller Italian film genre that was very popular in the 1970s.
Starring Claudia Gerini, Nuot Arquint, Laurence Belgrave, and Michela Cescon, Claudia plays a black-hatted, black-gloved killer stalking the members of Tulpa, an exclusive mystic Buddhist sex club to which the heroine belongs.
