The Jersey Shore has been so popular in the US and since Italian-Americans are one of the only groups that doesn’t seem go completely nuts if they are stereotyped negatively, I’m surprised no one’s thought of it sooner: Producer Pietro Valsecchi’s Italian blockbuster I Soliti Idioti (The Usual Idiots) is going to have an Italian-American cousin.

“We want to take a stab at it with two Italian-American Usual Idiots, making them international and shooting in New York. As far as the swearing goes”, he adds ironically, “no problem. There are already semiologists working to find the English equivalents.

I don’t even know where to begin, expressing my displeasure. a) The original I Soliti Idioti  released in 2011 and grossing 11 million euro is probably my least favorite Italian movie of all time and b) I have no reason to believe that the sequel, ‘I 2 Soliti Idioti’, released today in Italy, will be any less vulgar. Furthermore, c) Italian cinema doesn’t need  one more stupid movie that will give Americans the wrong idea about modern Italian films.

In the original, the worst, most disgusting father on the planet tries to get his moronic son laid, and MyMovies.it gave the sequel only one star, saying it’s “A sequel full of gags, incoherent and vulgar, trying to tell a story about the worst of idiotic Italians’ bad habits”.
