NOW ON DEMAND: SHUN LI AND THE POET (IO SONO LI)
In Shun Li and the Poet (Io Sono Li) , directed by documentary filmmaker Andrea Segre, a Chinese woman, Shun Li is working in a bar near Venice to pay back her passage from China and for the money to send for her son who is still in China.
Forbidden by the Chinese bar owners to form personal relationships with the Italian customers, this is easy at first for Shun Li since she speaks barely any Italian, but as her grasp of the language grows so does her ties to the regulars in the bar.

This first feature-length film from Segre racked up the awards and nominations: Actress Tao Zhao received the best actress award for this movie at Italy’s 2012 David di Donatello Awards, the film received 3 minor awards at the Venice Film Festival, and it was nominated for 3 Silver Ribbons from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
