Italian Filmfests Across The United States

Again some very exciting news from reader Mary Sue Lyons: small Italian film festivals that I haven’t been aware of, all across the United States, have been showing outstanding Italian films that would otherwise unavailable to American audiences, free to the public She sent me a link to a “Must Bookmark” website, Italian Film Festival USA.  My excitement turned to frustration when I realized that all of this year’s dates have passed, but I’ll be looking with great anticipation for next year’s schedule!

I’ve seen just about all of these movies but they are the kind that I see and then grumble incessantly that they won’t be available here in the states. I’m particularly delighted to see movies like Fabio Volo’s ‘Il Giormo In Più’, a movie that, to be honest didn’t go over great in Italy but American audiences will find an adorable romantic comedy. Starring Volo and Isabella Ragonese, Volo plays, Giocomo, a 40-year-old serial dater who becomes infatuated with a woman he sees on the tram every day, Michela, played by Ragonese. It’s based on a book by Volo.

This year’s winner was the phenomenal Terraferma, Emanuale Crialese‘s film that should have been shown at theaters all across the US, about a fishing boat captain who runs into a raft filled with African immigrants and loses his boat after he saves them.

Allora, alla prossima! We’ll have to wait for next year.
