So you’ve bought that region free DVD player and now you can watch movies from all over the world; good move. I can’t help you with the French or Korean movies, but let me explain a little about ordering Italian movies from Italy.
There are a lot available right on Amazon.com these days, but my favorite source is ibs.it, and I make an order with them about once a month. They are speedy and reliable, and they stock just about everything I’m looking for. I link to their site frequently and maybe you’ve taken a look but have been intimidated because of the Italian. Here’s a few hints to help you navigate the site:
So many of the words are similar to English ones and you won’t have any trouble with the genres like drammatico and commedia, and DVDs are DVDs (except they are pronounced Dee Vu Dee), so click on the DVD page and start searching. Up in the right hand corner you’ll see Cerca – that means “search”. If you click on Ricerca Avanzata, the advanced search, you’ll be able to look for specific directors, Registi. actors, Attori, genres, Genere, and Subtitles, Lingua Sottotitoli. You can put them in the order that you want by clicking Criterio di ordinamento dei titoli trovati and the choices are pretty easy to translate. Data means date, prezzo means price, and alfabetico means alphabetical. See how easy Italian is?
Check out the saldi d’estate ( summer sales) and if you see sconto it means discount.
So let’s say you want to buy the DVD del Giorno, which today is Viva la libertà starring Toni Servillo. There are lots of easy to understand information there but if you scroll down you’ll want to pay attention to Lingua sottotitoli (subtitles) – it says italiano per non udenti which means Italian for the hearing impaired, so unless you are confident with your Italian, there are no English subtitles available for this movie. Look for the movies that say sottotitoli: inglese.
Let’s say you buy it anyway, so you click on Metti nel Carrello to put it in your cart (underneath “metti nel carrello” it says “you can always take it out later”), and then you can Cerca altri prodotti (look for other stuff), aggiorna il carrello (update the cart), svuota il carrello (empty the cart), or procedi all’aquisto (proceed to the check out).

Have more questions? Email me and I’ll try to help, but don’t let a little Italian stop you from ordering from ibs.it. Remember, unless you are ibs premium like I am (and you become one if you shop there a lot), spedizione (delivery) can be expensive, so order as many as you can at one time. Take a look and contact me at iloveitalianmovies@gmail.com if you need more help.
