What’s a girl to do? It’s a man’s world, especially on this small island in southern Italy, and the easiest thing to do is just follow the rules. If you’re married, your husband is going to call the shots. If you are an unmarried woman living at home with your parents, your mother will be doing that. If you are the town prostitute, living with the town’s disdain puts a damper on your freedom to do as you please. It couldn’t hurt to have couple of Amiche Da Morire, friends to die for.
For Gilda (Claudia Gerini), Olivia (Cristiana Capotondi) , and Crocetta (Sabrina Impacciatore), a single, sudden, impulsive act gives them unforseen choices and a bond that confuses their friends, families, and the local police department. Though their friendship is a product of pragmatism and a big secret that they’ve agreed to keep between the three of them and it’s in their best interest to get along, it’s not that easy for a prostitute, a naive housewife, and an old maid to see eye to eye on every little thing.
Absurd and full of broad humor, Amiche Da Morire is never the less a fun, old fashioned screwball comedy that doubles as a female buddy film. Weak dialogue is saved by three beautiful and talented actresses and the sunny, campy southern Italian backdrop. With some dark humor and twists and turns straight out of a TV crime show thrown in, this one is worth your time.
