I’ll be in DC and joining them on Sunday, November 10, for a screening of one of my favorite films, Luigi Lo Cascio’s La Città Ideale. I was lucky enough to have been at the film’s premier at the Venice Film Festival with Luigi in the audience. I remember him saying how nervous he was, watching us watch the movie, his directorial debut.
This group brings the best in classic and contemporary Italian films every month. The tickets for admission cost $10.00. Popcorn and beverages are also available. Their goal with each event is to cover their costs.

Michele Grassadonia is a fervent environmentalist. A long time ago, he moved from Palermo to Siena, his ideal city. For this event we’ll have a special guest Film Moderator: Cheri Passell. Cheri is a huge fan of Italian movies and she shares her passion with readers of her blog: iloveitalianmovies.com. She is also a huge fan of Luigi Lo Cascio (the director and lead actor for our November film). Cheri calls the film “a roller coaster ride of suspense, anxiety and laughter”. Trama: Michele Grassadonia è un fervente ecologista. Molto tempo fa ha lasciato Palermo per trasferirsi a Siena, che lui considera, tra tutte, la città ideale. Da quasi un anno sta portando avanti un esperimento nel suo appartamento: riuscire a vivere in piena autosufficienza, senza dover ricorrere all’acqua corrente o all’energia elettrica. In una notte di pioggia, Michele rimane coinvolto in una serie di accadimenti dai contorni confusi e misteriosi. Da questo momento in poi, la sua esperienza felice di integrazione gioiosa nella città ideale comincerà a vacillare.
