Here’s a coincidence; I’m in the middle of thoroughly enjoying the international best seller, ‘The Dinner’, by Dutch writer Herman Koch when I notice that my favorite actor, Luigi Lo Casio is making a movie based on a book called “La Cena” (the dinner). Turns out that it’s no coincidence.
Director Ivano De Matteo is making the dark novel into a movie entitled I Nostri Ragazzi (Our Kids), starring Lo Cascio and Giovanna Mezzogiorno, back from a three year maternity leave and looking great.
The book is all about an unpleasant dinner in a fancy Amsterdam restaurant with two couples, brothers and their wives. The book is divided into their pretentious courses, and Serge, the famous politician, the pompous waiters, the ridiculous menu, and unhappy secrets make for a nightmarish scenario.
In the film version, Lo Cascio and Mezzogiorno play one of the couples and Barbara Bobulova and Alessandro Gassman, the other.
