Time to celebrate! Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘La Grande Bellezza’, The Great Beauty, is one of the 9 films chosen to go on to the final rounds of cuts on January 16 for the Academy Award’s Best Foreign Film race.

Not on the list, the film that I thought would be its biggest competion: Abdellatif Kechiche’s lesbian drama Blue Is the Warmest Color was not released in France by Sept. 30, the cut-off date for eligibility for this year’s entries. So, um, great! Good luck next year!
Only five films will make the list of finalists which is to be unveiled on January 16, 2014. The awards will be handed out March 2, 2014.
