Two Italian Movies Available For Time Warner Cable Customers

Right now, available ON DEMAND with Time Warner Cable, Emanuele Criales’s ‘Terraferma’, the story of Italy’s flood of illegal immigrants. This film was Italy’s selection for Oscar consideration two years ago.

A grandfather and his grandson, played by the astonishingly natural Fiilippo Pucillo, are fishermen on Lampedusa, a place that’s been gotten a lot of attention in the news because of the huge influx of immigrants pouring in from Libya and Tunisia. Also available right now: Guiseppe Tornatore’s ‘The Best Offer’ (La Migliore Offerta). If this award-winning film starring Geoffrey Rush is not playing at your local theater, you can catch it on cable.

Also starring Jim Sturgess, Donald Sutherland and Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks, it was shot in northern Italy, Vienna and Prague on an $18 million budget with a score is by Ennio Morricone. I think it is Tornatore’s best work to date.
