This past week has been difficult for me, and if anyone has been paying attention, they’ll have noticed that I missed a few days of posts for I Love Italian Movies. Last Friday my daughter suffered a bad injury and had emergency surgery so I’ve been preoccupied. She’s doing better than could have been expected, thanks for asking, but I needed a few days off.
We watched a lot of movies from her bed, one was Viaggio Sola, her request, so I took the opportunity to write about it. I also had some time to think, and when I’m back to normal there are some things that I’d like to do that will be new here.
First of all, my plan is to switch to a new web host and I don’t know what I’m doing with that so please bear with me. I really think that if I am not too stupid to figure it all out, you’ll see big improvements in February.
Second, I aim to solve the mystery of distribution laws and figure out what why it is so limited and if anything will happen if streaming completely takes over. Do you have the answer to this question? Let me know and put me out of my misery.
I’ll be at three important (to me, anyway) film festivals this year and I plan to make the most of them and bring you back as much information as I possibly can. I’ll be at New York’s Open Roads: New Italian Cinema in the first part of June, and then at the Taormina Film Festival later in June. Then, in August, I’ll be in Venice for La Biennale and I know, I know, I am lucky.
I get a lot of feedback, and I’m inviting more, good and bad. My daughter, who works in publishing, is not afraid to tell me when I am doing something wrong and neither should you. Is there something you’d like to hear about? Something that would be helpful?…keeping in mind, I am not and do not aspire to be an expert on older Italian films and don’t even care much for Fellini.
