Coming Soon: A Tidal Wave Of Italian Films

The list of Italian films are growing every day; here is just a sampling of things to come. The translations are mine, and when the films are exported they will likely be called something else:

Alaska, from Claudio Cupellini with Elio Germano, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Alba Rohrwacher and Valerio Binasco. “A story of desperation and of friendship. A cruel read of today’s world.”

In The Future, from Paolo Sorrentino with Michael Caine. “A story about the friendship of two old people.” (Could the other old person be Toni Servillo?)

Il Nome Del Figlio (In the name of the son) from Francesca Archibugi with Alessandro Gassman, Micaela Ramazzotti, Valeria Golino, Luigi Lo Cascio and Rocco Papaleo. “A sparkling comedy, and all of the liveliness of the French film, Le Prénom seasoned with Italian sauce.”

La Prima Volta (the first time) from Riccardo Rossi with Anna Foglietta, Fabrizia Sacchi, Stefano Fresi. “About a single father who reads his teenage daughter’s diary and discovers that she’s thinking of having her first sexual experience.”

La Prima Luce (the first light) from Vincenzo Marra with Riccardo Scamarcio. “About the break up of a family and of the successive reuniting, obtained from great sacrifices.”

Il Ricco, il Povero e il Maggiordomo (the rich, the poor, and the butler) from Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo. Don’t know what this one is about, but probably standard Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo comedy.

Il Racconto dei Racconti (the tale of tales) from Matteo Garrone with Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel. “Based on a 17th century Italian fairy tale.”

Sursum Corda! (I have no idea what this means) from Paolo Cevoli

Si Accettano Miracoli (we accept miracles) from Alessandro Siani with Alessandro Siani, Fabio De Luigi, Ana Caterina Morariu, Serena Autieri, Giacomo Rizzo. A comedy, that’s all I know.

The Correspondence from Giuseppe Tornatore. This one is a love story shot in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Una gita a Roma (a trip to Rome) from Karin Proia

Tempo Instabile Con Probabili Schiarite (unstable weather with probable clearing) from Marco Pontecorvo with Carolina Crescentini, Fabrizio Gifuni, Lillo, John Turturro. “A comedy about two guys who discover oil on their property.”
