Luigi Lo Cascio’s Career Is On Fire

If you don’t know how much I admire Luigi Lo Cascio then you haven’t been paying attention.

Born in Palermo, Sicily on the 20th of October, 1967 (we call that “Luigi Lo Cascio Day” around here), ever since his debut in I Cento Passi in 2000 Luigi’s career has been virtually ON FIRE, starring in dozens of films, directing, writing, and starring in La Città Ideale, and winning all kinds of award including Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival.

And his career just keeps getting better; right now everybody’s talking about three of his movies.

Director’s Paolo Virzì’s ‘Il Capitale Umano’ is definitely the next big thing in Italian cinema. They’ve just been handed a prize at the Tribeca Film Festival and there will be more to follow. Luigi plays Donato Russomanno in this film based on a book by Stephen Amidon.

Luigi’s just adorable in Salvo, available on DVD now in Italy and playing in theaters around the US. DIrected by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, Salvo is the story of a mafia hit man who is having an identity crisis; Luigi plays his timid landlord.

In Marina opening in theaters today (also starring Donatella Finocchiaro and directed by Stijn Coninx) Luigi plays the father of singer Rocco Granata, world-famous for the song “Marina”.

Look for him later this year in a really fascinating story based on a bestselling book, The Dinner by Herman Koch; I Nostri Ragazzi  is being directed by Ivano De Matteo and also stars Giovanna Mezzogiorno.
