“Il Capitale Umano” – Paolo Virzì
Paolo Virzì’s got a winner here with theater audiences, let’s see how he does at the David di Donatello Awards, where he’s been nominated in 19 categories, one more than Sorrentino for La Grande Bellezza. Actress Valeria Bruni Tedeschi won best actress for this film at the Tribeca Film Festival in a story based on Stephen Amidon’s book. I think Italy liked this one better than La Grande Bellezza, so I could see this one doing really well.
“La Grande Bellezza ” – Paolo Sorrentino
Oscar winner La Grande Bellezza didn’t play as well in Italy as it did the rest of the world but lead actor Toni Servillo was spectacular in his role as Jep Gambardella. Personally, this was the best film I’ve seen in years. If you haven’t had the chance, you can rent it on Youtube:
“La Mafia Uccide Solo D’Estate” – Pierfrancesco DIlIberto
In this comedy taken right from director Pierfrancesco Diliberto’s personal experience, it’s about a boy that grows up in Palermo with Mafia violence being part of his everyday reality.
“La Sedia Della Felicità” – Carlo Mazzacurati
Carlo Mazzacurati’s film starring Valerio Mastandrea, Isabella Ragonese and Giuseppe Battiston has already won the Nasto D’Argento of 2014. And that’s a pretty big deal.
“Smetto Quando Voglio ” – Sydney SIbilia
A university researcher is fired because of the cuts to university, so to earn a living he decides to use his and his friends skills to make and sell drugs.
