I’ve found the motherload of complete Italian and I don’t know what to do with them.
I’m posting them here, for now, as I have in the past, but as excited as I am to find them, that’s how creepy I feel about not paying the filmmakers.I would never, ever download an American movie for free, so why am I actually encouraging you all to watch these Italian movies?
Here’s why: we can’t get them any other way. Well, we can, technically. You can do what I did and buy a region free DVD player, then order DVDs from Italy, paying exorbitant customs fees. I have the premium status at ibs.it because I order so many videos; I spend hundreds of dollars every month.
I’m posting these movies to start a dialogue about film distribution. We here in America want these films and we’d happily pay to watch them. In this global economy, in this world-wide web of cultures, why can’t I pay to watch movies from other countries? Why am I limited? Why can’t I have something I would happily pay for? It’s not weed, after all.
I am thinking about taking down these YouTube videos and taking a hard-line against illegal uploads, but it’s a double-edged sword. It’s like saying, There’s no bread in your country, but it’s illegal to steal ours.
Give us bread! Give us a legal way to watch these films!!! I’m tired of writing about a great Italian film like Benvenuti al Sud, having people ask where they can watch it, and having to tell the,. “You can’t”.
My hope is that people will watch them, get hooked, and want more. I want to show people the wonderful work that Italy is producing these days.
And catch them while they are here; they come and go.
