You can’t hope for a new life without settling the score with the old one.
Next week at the Venice Film Festival my family will be with Al Pacino at the Manglehorn premier, but I’ll be with Pierfrancsco Favino at the premier of his new movie, Senza Nessuna Pietà. Italians have been sporting t-shirts with the film’s title for months in eager anticipation of its arrival to theaters.
He gained forty pounds for the role and looks scary, but still handsome as all get out playing Mimmo, a mafia bag man, living the only life he’s ever known.
Tania, played by Greta Scarano, is a prostitute that has figured out that she’s on her own, that she’s beautiful, and men will pay for her, and she meets Mimmo, both rediscover their need for love in their lives.
But “you can’t hope for a new life without settling the score with the old one”, and that makes Senza Nessuna Pietà a “must see” for me at Venice this year.
