You love foreign film. Good for you; just don’t be a snob about it.
Can you imagine if you lived in any country other than the US and all you knew of American cinema were the artsy films that never even make it to your cineplex. Sometimes they’s show up on pay-per-view or Netflix or something but there are subtitles, so you have to be wide awake and couldn’t cook, or check your email, or kiss your husband, because if you took your eyes off the screen for a second you”d miss something.
Does that sound like fun? You’d miss all the Tina Fey and Seth Rogan movies because they weren’t “important” enough and you’d think that Americans didn’t know how to make a fun movies. You’d probably say something like “I HATE Italian movies!”.
It’s different for Italians. They get practically everything from the US, know all about Tina Fey and Josh Rogan, and when they are watching, they can take their eyes off the screen for two seconds because it’s dubbed, there are no subtitles.
To be fair, there are distribution concerns that make it nearly impossible for Americans to see some of the most fun Italian films, but I’m going to spend the next few days telling you about some of them, and today, I’d like you to watch a thriller, just for fun, starring Filippo Timi and Kseniya Rappoport.
Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, the 2009 La Doppia Ora (The Double Hour) is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. And Timi, he’s so good-looking I’ve watched it a few times just for him.
