Two time Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix winner Matteo Garrone is having a birthday today. His iconic Gomorrah won in 2008, and the innovative Reality in 2012. Garrone, 46 today is one of those directors that is making a huge impact in Italian cinema, and both film are easy to find here in the US.
Watch for his next film, an English language film called The Tale of Tales and starring Selma Hayek, Toby Jones, Vincent Cassel and Alba Rohrwacher.
Gomorrah (spelled without the “h” in Italian) is an extremely complicated crime story about the day to day operations of the lesser known and yet more prolific crime organization in Italy,the Camorra and the hard life of the normal people living in its grip.
