One of the masters of the spaghetti western genre, Enzo G. Castellari, whose last film was made in 1993, spent the better part of his career making them, debuting in 1966 as the uncredited director of A Few Dollars for Django.”
“Fingers crossed, in we’ll begin in January or February thanks to two young, enthusiastic German producers that pushed me to fly high. I certainly won’t do it half way, it will be a classic western done old school,” promises Castellari, “with a hero who avenges wrongs, protects the weak, and overcomes all problems. The kind of film that made me love this genre when I was a boy and that I always made when I got behind the camera.”
The fact that the project has ended up on the German producers’ desk isn’t by chance; the German market has provided a sense of security for him for a long time. “In the ’70s all we needed was a subject, Franco Nero, and you’d have all the money you need just from Germany to make a movie.”
It’s been announced that the title will be Badlanders and that stars will include Franco Nero, Lou Ferrigno, Terry Gilliam, Keith Carradine, Michael Madsen, F. Murray Abraham, Matthew Modine and Nastassja Kinski.
