Let us know what Italian Movies Are Showing In Your City.

We’ll update as we hear from you, but in case you need some help getting started:

The Tribeca Film Festival will be showing Laura Bispuri’s Vergine Giurata , competing in the World Narrative Competition. Tribeca is April 15-26.

As a young woman living within the confines of a Northern Albanian village, Hana longs to escape the shackles of womanhood, and live her life as a man. To do so she must take an oath to eternally remain a virgin. Years later, as Mark, she leaves home for the first time to confront a new set of circumstances, leading her to contemplate the possibility of undoing her vow. In Albanian, Italian with subtitles.

Pierfrancesco “Pif” Diliberto, Italian TVs answer to Jon Stewart has made his first movie, a clever child’s eye view of what it was like for normal people living under the mafia’s thumb in 1980s and 90s Palermo. Diliberto directed, starred in, and cowrote this uniquely entertaining take on a very serious theme, the mafia’s killing spree that resulted in the deaths of judges, politicians, and police officers and reached fever pitch with the famous “Maxi-Trial”.

Our city, Cleveland OH has chosen La Nostra Terra and Una Piccola Impresa Meridionale for the Cleveland International Film Festival. (Odd choice. Who is in charge over there?) The festival starts March 18.

Una Piccola Impresa Meridionale is so excruciatingly jammed with sentimentality, clichés, and unlikely scenarios and dialogue that I almost abandoned watching it a couple of times. But what do I know?
