In Italian theaters April 16, many say that Nanni Moretti’s latest film, Mia Madre, will compete at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Margherita Buy as a director in crisis on two fronts; her mother is sick and in the hospital, and she’s directing a film that stars an undisciplined and superficial American actor played by John Turturro. Moretti stars as the director’s brother.

Mia Madre is a film tribute to Moretti’s own mother, who died a few years ago.
